Puhekielen fraasit Augustinuksen Soliloquia-teoksessa

Augustinuksen Soliloquia-teos on dialogimuodossa oleva väittely, joka on hyvä lähde latinan puhekielen fraseologialle. Työn tarkoituksena on esitellä latinankielistä keskustelua helpottavia ilmauksia. Kirkkoisä Augustinus eli myöhäisantiikin aikana, mutta oli silti klassisen latinan edustaja, kuten tässä työssä esiteltävä Soliloquia teoskin osoittaa. Työn pääpaino on kuitenkin latinan puhekielessä. Tästä Augustinuksen ja hänen järkensä välisestä vuoropuhelusta on valikoitu sopivia fraaseja, jotka on suomennettu ja lajiteltu aihepiirinsä mukaan. Varsinaisen käsittelyosan lisäksi fraasit on lueteltu myös suomesta latinaan pain, samoin aihepiirinsä mukaan. Soliloquia-teos oli tarkoitettu kirja…
The Eloquence of Publius Sulpicius Rufus and Gaius Aurelius Cotta in Cicero's Brutus

The purpose of this chapter is to investigate the personalities of Publius Sulpicius Rufus and Gaius Aurelius Cotta, that illustrate the Roman eloquence at the beginning of the first century BC with particular regard to the wide section of the Ciceronian Brutus, the treatise in which they are protagonists of an intense confrontation in order to reflect on different styles of eloquence. On the other hand, a survey on the characteristics of their eloquence, conducted in the absence of direct evidence that provides objective feedback about their oratorical qualities, also makes possible to analyse the importance (and in some cases the indispensability) of Cicero’s opinion.

After some considerations about the chronology of Theatre of Sabratha and on the internal organization of pulpitum reliefs, this paper puts forward the hypothesis of the attribution to Apuleius of the most part of the iconographic programme. In particular, Florida and Metamorphosis are suggested as direct sources of some scenes. The reconsideration of the pulpitum's first scene, starting from the left, previously interpreted as a sort of theatral academy, confrims this hypothesis. The scene represents a group of philosophers, strictly derived from the representation of the seven savants, as depicted on two well known mosaics.
